Planning your visit to our display homes

If you’re starting to get serious about building a new home, there’s a high chance you’re about to spend the next few weekends hitting the road to check out our display homes.

We salute you! You’re about to embark on an incredible journey. But we also recognise that the task at hand can feel a little overwhelming, especially if it is your first build.

To get you feeling confident about heading out to explore our display centres, we’ve come up with a checklist of essential things to do before you go, while you’re there, and throughout the process.

The goal is to streamline your visit and make sure you get the most out of each moment in our beautiful homes.

Know what you want

Before you start looking at our display homes, it’s helpful to have a clearer vision about your lifestyle and how you want to use the space. To get you started, we suggest reflecting on our list of things to consider when planning your new home. From the flow of the floorplan to the fixtures and finishes, you’ll get a better sense of what it is that you are after. You can also use the list to guide you as you walk through the display centres.

Check it out online first

Our display home 3D Virtual Tours are an absolute must-do before you visit any of our homes. The 3D tool allows you to explore the interiors and exteriors of our homes in great detail, and many home designs also offer video walkthroughs.

Doing the prep online means you can shortlist the houses you love, helping you decide which homes suit your lifestyle and saving you the trip to those that don’t.

Limit yourself to four homes a day

Go easy on yourself. Browsing the displays at your own pace will ensure you enjoy the process, can take everything in and don’t overwhelm yourself with design options. Setting a goal of no more than four of your shortlisted homes in one day, map out a journey to those within proximity to each other. Pre-book a lunch spot in the area to make sure you take a break and be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks.

Come prepared with plenty of questions

Doing a bit of research before you visit our display homes will enrich your experience. Each property is staffed with our New Home Advisors, who are ready to answer all your questions, so don’t be shy to ask.

You may be wondering what upgrades are available, how much flexibility you could have with the floor plan and facade, or specific costings and price estimates. Be sure to bring a notepad so you can write down all your thoughts and learnings.

Stay true to your budget

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement when you’re touring our beautiful displays. However, try to remain grounded and know what you can afford without breaking the bank. We make homes for all Australians, no matter where you are in your journey. What might not work for your budget now might be something you can reconsider later down the track. To help you estimate your home budget, use our budgeting calculator, or seek professional advice.

Get snap happy

Make sure you take plenty of photos while you’re out at our displays. While we have professional photography on our website and social media, taking your own pictures will help to jog your memory, so it’s worth tracking your journey. Take photos of the rooms you love, the features you’d like to change, and the interior styling that excites you, and you may want to replicate. In the meantime, there’s also plenty of interior inspiration on our Lookbook page.

Enjoy the process

No matter where you are in your life and what your reasons for building may be, you’re about to embark on an exciting new chapter. While buying and building a new home can be overwhelming, the Metricon team exists to make the process as simple as possible. Our goal is to educate and inspire you with our displays, help you select a design you will love, and by taking care of the heavy lifting, let you enjoy the process of making your new dream home a reality.
