Yvette's build journey: Home is where the beach is

Metricon

For Yvette and her two boys, being by the beach in Adelaide’s northwest was exactly where they were meant to be.

While they were rapidly outgrowing their current house, the everchanging real estate market and rising house prices in the area had Yvette concerned that she may need to move from the location that she had grown to love so much.

“It was a stressful time. It was breaking my heart to think that we would potentially have to leave the area. My boys and I had developed great relationships with our neighbours, the beach was 300m away, their school was close and there was a park at the end of the street. We loved it there.”

Yvette wanted to find a location where it felt like home before they reached the front door. A place where the kids could grow up, make friends, and embed themselves in the local community and amenities.

So, Yvette made the call that would ultimately start her journey with Metricon – to knock down their current home and build new.

I was not familiar with the building process so I needed to go with someone that I could trust – for me, that was Metricon. Yvette said.

“That’s when we started discussing the idea of me building a new house. It was an option that I previously thought was out of my budget. I quickly became aware that there were several options that I could look at which would allow me to stay in the location I had grown to love for more than 10 years.”

Yvette decided on the Banksia 27 from Metricon’s Freedom range. The modern four-bedroom, double-storey design was the perfect family home with multiple flexible living spaces and room to move and grow.

“I was looking for a modern, affordable design that offered enough space for me and my two growing boys.”

I was completely sold by having the downstairs lounge for me and the upstairs leisure room for them. I also made some of my own small changes along the way such as increasing the ceiling heights, adding a feature window splashback in the kitchen and adding an outdoor shower. Yvette continued.

When it came to selections, Yvette adopted a neutral, contemporary aesthetic to allow for more freedom with interior styling when it comes time to move in.

“I really like the Country Luxe theme – it’s relaxing and modern with a muted colour palette of grey, white, subtle black and dark wood floors,” Yvette said.

Yvette also loved the fact that Metricon prides itself on quality builds and maintaining frequent communication throughout the build.

“Fortunately, we are living just a few streets over, so I’m always visiting the site to have a look at what progress has been made and continually getting updates from Kenny our Site Manager.”

“He’s been great throughout the process, and it really helped to put my mind at ease.”

“I’m looking forward to moving in with my two sons and creating lifelong memories - celebrating birthdays and special occasions with loved ones, continuing our friendships with our neighbours and of course spending time together at the beach.”
