The latest Lookbook style: High-end Hamptons

Metricon

If you desire a calm and classic interior that never goes out of style, Metricon's latest Lookbook theme, Southampton is for you. Inspired by the Hamptons' timeless look, Metricon designers have come up with an impressive selection that takes the best of those famous beach houses dotting the coast of Long Island, New York.

It's an iconic look of cladding, and clean colour palettes, focusing on coastal lifestyles, and 'alfresco' outdoor living. Most importantly, there's no expense spared when it comes to tasteful, luxe finishes.

While inspired by the American east coast's elegance, Metricon designers have created this new interior style for homeowners in an Australian context. It's perfect for those seeking sophisticated but understated styling in their new home's living spaces.

"Southampton is a beautiful mix of relaxed coastal style elements with classic high-end finishes, to give this style a clean, fresh and elegant feel," Metricon senior interior designer Jacinta Evans says.

The Hamptons look lies in its iconic colour scheme, joinery, mouldings, and wall cladding. Accordingly, the Southampton colour palette keeps it simple, with shades of warm grey applied to walls, allowing the crisp whites to highlight embellishments, fireplaces and built-in cabinetry.

White is carried through consistently in the kitchen, dining room and bathroom surfaces. Classic marble benchtops create light and add opulence to these functional spaces, sitting atop shaker style cabinetry. Styling with natural textures like cane baskets, rattan and coastal flotsam adds textural interest in the living rooms.

Made for Australians, Southampton takes care not to be a complete cliché of Hamptons style homes. Styling and homewares hint at the coastal influence to bring a relaxed feel, but not enough to diminish the home's elegance.

A hallmark of classic Hamptons interior design is the sofa, taking centre stage in living areas. With Southampton, we position oversized furniture pieces in natural fabrics symmetrically to create a defined, inviting focal point. You can add interest with a coffee table, an occasional chair in a lush fabric and cushions in cool blue and green tones to provide dramatic contrast.

The Southampton bedroom uses linen upholstery to provide texture and warmth and tailored white linen curtains with subtle striped detailing. These colours and textures complement the inky blue feature walls and clean coastal artwork, remaining faithful to the nautical design elements and creating an ambient mood for intimate spaces.

Side tables and pendant lights, table lamps and wall sconces add visual interest to this look and provide the opportunity to incorporate a touch of art deco 1920's Gatsby glamour with gold, nickel or brass features.

While many traditional coastal styles tend to use distressed or washed woodwork, Southampton takes things to another luxury level. Instead, walnut tones create contrast and warmth when positioned against fresh white colour palettes.

Chris Carroll of The Life Creative recently took a home tour with Metricon's Senior Interior Designer, Jacinta Evans, to chat about this classic decorating style. Watch to see how you can makeover your living areas with Southampton home design.

Metricon builds homes in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as regional hubs across Victoria, NSW, Queensland and South Australia.
