Selecting the right window furnishings for your home

Metricon

Window furnishings play an important role in creating style, comfort and energy efficiency of your home. Making selections are as unique as you, your family, your home and your collective style. So with many options before you, we, together with our partners at Lovelight have compiled a simple guide to help you select the right window furnishings for your home, to your style and within your budget.

The considerations

Before considering which furnishings you may like, it is important to think about the following:

  1. What is the overall interior style you are looking to achieve?
  2. How does the style of your home vary from room to room, and how should your window furnishings reflect that?
  3. Which rooms get the most direct sunlight in your home, and what level of blockout do you need?
  4. Where in the home would you like to create the highest level of privacy?
  5. Would automated window furnishings make your life easier?

Now it is time to get your head around the various types of products you can choose from.

Lovelight offer a full range of window furnishing options to suit any purpose and any style. Select from curtains, pelmets, roller blinds, Roman blinds, shutters and Venetian blinds.

Curtains

Curtains are an excellent option when looking to soften a room or to ensure privacy and darkness.

Lovelight curtains are all made-to-order using fabrics sourced from around the world. Choose between Pencil Pleat, S-Fold or Eyelet curtains to complement the style of your space with the assistance from your friendly Studio M consultant. An example of an eyelet curtain is pictured below in the bedroom of our Delta 28BP on display in Strathfieldsaye, VIC.

Pelmets

Aesthetically, pelmets impart elegance, structure and sophistication to a window. Functionally, they help to minimise heat and/or cooling loss through the window opening, and thus reduce power bills and reliance on the environment for energy. When coupled with curtains, roller blinds, roman blinds or venetian blind, pelmets act to conceal fixtures, improve insulation and aesthetically finish the look of a window. Pelmets can also strengthen the design scheme on their own.

Lovelight offer both hard and soft pelmet options in a range of fabric colours and textures. Pictured below in our Fortitude 37 on display in Strathfieldsaye, VIC is an example of a pelmet coupled with curtains.

Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are perfect for adding a simple, yet stylish touch to your home. Easy to operate, they are the ultimate functional blind and can be personalised depending on colour selection. Lovelight offers a diverse selection of fabrics which gives you the flexibility to control the desired amount of light you want to enter a room. Roller blinds also provide protection from the harmful sun while still allowing a view of the outside - simply ask us how easy it is to motorise your roller blinds.

Romans

Roman blinds add warmth and sophistication to the home. Fully lined, soft fabrics in Lovelight’s range give a luxurious feel to windows, ideal if you are looking for a fashionable alternative to curtains. With their complete blockout capability, Roman blinds are ideal for bedrooms, bathrooms – as displayed below in our Bayville 49 on display in Brighton East VIC – and other areas that need to be kept dark.

Shutters

Shutters represent the ultimate in style, functionality and versatility. Their classic aesthetic can be admired from both inside and outside, and adjustable blades allow you to control light, privacy and temperature all year round. Shutters are particularly long lasting and thus are a great investment for your home in the longer term. Available in timber and synthetic materials, each with an extensive range of finishes and colours, you can always ensure that your shutters perfectly align with your interior colour scheme and style.

Consider shutters as room dividers – as displayed below in our Chelsea 33 on display in Bairnsdale, VIC. You may also use shutters in the traditional way on windows.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are one of the world’s most popular and desirable window dressings. They are truly versatile and stylish, and represent an extremely functional system of controlling light, privacy, ventilation and insulation. A perfect alternative to shutters, Venetian blinds achieve an elegant yet natural look, and either a formal or casual feel.

Choose between wood or aluminium materials, depending on your interior style requirements. Beautiful timber venetian blinds from Lovelight have been used in the bedroom of our Delta 28BP on display in Craigieburn, VIC.
