Why you need a Butler’s Pantry in your home

Butlers' Pantries are a great addition to any modern day kitchen, especially when it comes to entertaining and keeping the home neat and tidy. If you want to know more then read on to discover their various benefits and why they can add so much value to your home.

Unlike the pantries of years gone by, pantries are now bigger and better, and with so many additional extras to consider such as power points, shelving and appliances - it's confusing to know where to start. What we love about the butler's pantry is that it allows your kitchen to look great all the time, no matter the occasion. This is especially true for those who love to entertain. Food preparation can be done easily in this space, keeping all the mess out the back and allowing your kitchen to be the true star of the show.

Metricon's Design Director Adrian Popple says, "The butler's pantry has gained a lot of interest since we started including them in our larger homes several years ago. It has now become a standard feature in most of our homes regardless of their size. The main purpose of a butler's pantry is not just to provide storage for food but to also serve as a meal prep and clean up area?"

Want to avoid the dreaded 'rookie error'? One of the biggest mistakes we see when it comes to designing a butler's pantry is not including enough power points. It's always important to think about how many appliances you use on a daily basis and to ensure the addition of enough power points to avoid pulling out cords all the time. We also understand that the cost of a butlers' pantry can deter those on a tight budget - but don't fret! You can keep the costs down in this space by continuing with the same colour scheme used in the kitchen - just change up the materials.

If you're looking for more inspiration, make sure you watch our latest LookBook video on the topic. The video includes plenty of other ideas and useful tips on the subject from one of our very own Senior Interior Designers Jacinta Evans and Chris Carroll from The Life Creative blog. Jacinta and Chris also provide hints on how to design the perfect butler's pantry to suit your individual needs.

Jacinta says, "Butlers' Pantries are traditionally out of sight from visitors, so it can be a great area in the home to save money. Cut costs by opting for materials such as laminate benches and cabinetry over stone bench tops and selecting for shelves over drawers."
