2019: A grand year for Metricon

As we near the end of the year, the promise of 2020 is incredibly exciting for Metricon Homes. Quite apart from the date sounding like something from a science fiction movie, we know it’s going to be a great start to the new decade for Australia’s number one builder.

That’s because 2019 has been a stellar year for Metricon. From winning a brace of awards to participating in new projects, from leveraging our success to support charity and sporting partners, to attracting glowing praise for our new display homes plus a host of exciting events and masterclasses, it was a year to remember.

With so much to celebrate, helping Australians of all backgrounds love where they live, we’ve built a strong platform to launch into 2020.

Going for gold – the awards rolled in

Metricon was recognised as Australia's top residential builder by the HIA-Colorbond Housing Top 100 report for the fourth year running. Officially Australia’s number one builder, it’s a rewarding sign of customer trust in our brand.

Metricon Director Peter Langfelder said, “We are delighted to have grown Metricon’s share of the national residential build market in difficult times. This is a testament to our national team, our passion for what we do, and the Australian families we do it for.”

The luxurious Riviera, our flagship Signature home Queensland with impeccable style and one of our most popular designs, was our biggest winner of the year.

It secured a glittering haul including Queensland Display Home of the Year at the2019 HIA-CSR Queensland Housing Awards, Best Display Home over $551,000 at the 2019 MBQLD Housing and Construction Awards and Best Display Home Interior Design and Decoration at the 2019 HIA Brisbane Kitchen, Bathroom and Queensland Interior Design Awards.

We were named Major Professional Builder of the Year at the 2019 HIA-CSR South Australian Housing Awards, where four of our incredible home designs took out individual prizes: the Lincoln 29, the Merricks 42, the Franklin 40 and the Edgewater 6.0.

And we did exceedingly well in several regional Victorian awards ceremonies too, with the Chelsea, the Lawson and the Bohemian all singled out for glory.

It’s reassuring for our teams after a year of hard work to know our customers are loving our constantly evolving offering, and that we continue to attract strong industry praise.

Our guarantee to you – Metricon’s Lifetime Structural Guarantee was unveiled

Our valued customers are at the heart of what we do here at Metricon. We understand that building a home is one of the biggest and most important decisions you’ll ever make. We want you to be able to make that decision with confidence.

That’s why we increased our already excellent 25-year-guarantee to an incredible Lifetime Structural Guarantee* back in January this year. We’re putting our money where our mouth is on our commitment to impeccable quality, craftsmanship and excellence in design so that you can build with confidence.

Embracing energy efficiency – We designed our first Zero Net Carbon display home

With more and more Australians concerned about rising power bills and interested in sustainable design, Metricon addressed both concerns head-on. Proudly unveiling our first Zero Net Carbon display home, the four-bedroom Delta 29MR at the beautiful Kaduna Park Estate in Officer, VIC, on Sustainable House Day 2019, it’s a win-win on both fronts.

Specifically designed to be cooler in summer and warmer in winter, the design maximises energy efficiency, lowering your power bills and greenhouse gas emissions at the same time.

Welcome homes – new displays and designs were launched across the country

It’s been a brilliant year for introducing new homes to our trusted customers. We opened our first DualOcc display homes in Kellyville, NSW, with the dynamic duo of the Grange and the Sutherland.

In Victoria, we presented the stunning Freedom by Metricon Davenport in Warragul, perfect for luxurious regional living. In Werribee, the Langdon and Merricks both proved popular, as did the new Deltas in Warrnambool and Strathfieldsaye.

Queenslanders were spoiled with no fewer than seven new display homes this year, including the Fintona and Mantra at Greenbank.

South Australia shared the love with brand new Botanica and Vantage display homes in Blackwood Park, Craigburn Farm.

Metricon also opened Studio M experiences in Adelaide and Geelong, assisting customers on their new home building journey, guiding them through a wealth of personalisation options. We also announced the forthcoming relocation of our new state office in Robina, Queensland.

Building community – expanding our sporting partnerships

Metricon extended our proud partnership with A-league soccer team Melbourne Victory for a further two year-period.

Melbourne Victory Chairman Anthony Di Pietro recognised our shared values, saying, “A key factor in the partnership renewal was that we are like-minded in our approach – Metricon supports families of all types, promoting values in line with the club’s own family-orientated philosophy.”

This year also saw the introduction of the club’s first ever mascot, 'Kikka', recognising our mutual desire to inspire young fans. Kikka was named by Metricon’s Inner Urban New Home Advisor Brenan McGann.

We also renewed our partnership with AFL team the Gold Coast SUNS through to 2022, including naming rights of their home ground, Metricon Stadium.

“Metricon is proud to have been side-by-side with the SUNS since 2011, forging a grass-roots partnership that promotes the community and family connections synonymous with both of our brands,” said Jason Biasin, Metricon’s Gold Coast-based director.

Giving back – setting our charitable goals

We understand that our success as a business extends beyond our passionate commitment to our customers. Metricon must also play an important role in our local communities, particularly helping support those doing it tough.

We were proud to form strategic bonds with two national charities this year.

CanTeen supports youth impacted by a cancer diagnosis – be it their own or that of a family member, while Habitat for Humanity focusses on providing safe and affordable housing for disadvantaged Australians.

Both charities will receive over a million dollars in financial support from Metricon over a three-year period, as well as our teams offering volunteer support and skills sharing.

“Metricon is in a unique position to share some of its good fortune with Australian families,” said Mario Biasin, Metricon’s Chief Executive Officer. “The synergies between CanTeen, Habitat for Humanity and Metricon became evident very quickly once we started exploring ways we could work together.”

Celebrating together – special events shared with you

The most rewarding events on Metricon’s calendar each year are always those involving you, our valued customers.

We celebrated Diwali – the joyous Hindu festival of lights – with MasterChef-winner Sashi Cheliah in our Signature home Somerset in Melbourne's Glen Waverley. Accompanied by magnificent Bollywood Dancers, he taught us how to make semolina pancakes with smoked chicken tikka.

Earlier in 2019, fellow MasterChef-winner Diana Chan helped us welcome in the Lunar New Year of the Pig at our Doulton display home in Burwood East. She spoiled Metricon’s rapt audience with a crash course in making crab egg-nests and home-made fortune cookies.

We partnered with Dulux to host a Masterclass Series event on how best to add a splash of colour to your home, and we held Mothers’ Day table-styling classes in Regional Victoria as well as a BuildSmart series session on relocating to the area.

In Queensland, we celebrated Lunar New Year in our Bordeaux display home in Brisbane with My Kitchen Rules champions Tasia and Gracia Seger. They served our excited guests prawn and pork wontons with sweet chilli sauce and crispy chicken ribs.

In South Australia, celebrity chef Simon Bryant and She Shopped guru Lucy Cornes helped us open our new Studio M at a glitzy event including a gift bag packed with a special edition mandarin-infused Metricon Gin from Kangaroo Island Spirits.

Sharing these moments is our way of thanking our incredible customers for all their support. Without you, we wouldn’t be Australia’s number one builder.
