Recolour your home: Inside our Dulux Masterclass

Metricon

Looking to breathe new life into your interiors but don’t want to break the bank? Never underestimate the power of a fresh colour scheme. Adding a splash of colour is one of the simplest, yet most transformational ways to revamp your home. In partnership with the talented team at Dulux, Metricon recently hosted a Masterclass Series event to present ways to enhance the use of colour in your home. The Styling for Everyday Living workshop looked at the fundamentals of working with colour, and shared practical styling tips to use every day in your home.

Author and interior stylist Chris Carroll, founder of TLC Interiors, was the host for the evening, alongside presenters Bree Leech, Dulux’s Creative Director, and Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux’s Colour Expert. The workshop launched with Bree talking about the emotive influence of colour, and the way in which the use of colour can change the way you feel in a space. Colour has the ability to completely alter the mood of a room, and can both enhance great design aspects and mask flawed ones.

Bree explained that, when styling a room, it’s important to determine the mood you want to evoke in the space, and then use colour tone and temperature to bring your vision to life. Warm variants, such as reds, oranges and yellows are used to create a more active space, which cooler variants such as blues, greens and purples can encourage a more casual atmosphere.

After Bree’s insights into the emotive use of colour, Andrea chatted to attendees about the importance of factoring in undertones and lighting. When using colour in a particular area, it’s vital to assess the colour under the light that will be in that space, whether it be artificial or natural. Andrea also described the significance of looking at undertones under these same circumstances, as they add another layer of complexity to the colour.

Attendees were then invited into Metricon’s state of the art Studio M, where Bree and Andrea demonstrated how to most effectively style a living and dining room using colour. They answered questions from Chris and audience members, discussing current trends in materials and finishes in homes, and encouraged guests to make bold choices with colour. With fresh inspiration from the styling demonstration, guests had the opportunity to create their own mood board using Dulux colour swatches, wall paper, fabric, hard finishes and Lookbook images, with assistance and handy tips from our Studio M consultants.

Metricon’s Senior Interior Designer, Tracey Noonan said, “The positive feedback from guests on the night was very encouraging. Events like this allow us to really connect with our customers, and to give them home styling tips they can take away from the evening and apply in their new homes.”
