Metricon celebrates Diwali 2018 in bold, bright and beautiful style

Metricon

Metricon’s stunning show homes were shining bright at the 2018 celebrations of Diwali.

The festival of lights, which is one of the most significant — not to mention colourful — events on the Hindu calendar, symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

The celebrations, held over two evenings at the stunning Signature by Metricon and Designer abodes, saw the homes transformed into spectacular soirees of glistening lights, gorgeous colour and culinary treats.

Upon arrival at the impressive Sovereign 50, on show in Glen Waverley, an iridescent waterfall-style lighting installation set the scene and gave guests a glimpse of what to expect from the glittering gathering.

Behind the shimmering curtain, it was a smorgasbord of art, dance, entertainment and, of course, gourmet delights. MasterChef 2018 winner Sashi Cheliah cooked up a storm in the well-appointed kitchen, with his Diwali-inspired menu putting a contemporary spin on classic Indian flavours.

Cooking for a room full of hungry onlookers, Sashi effortlessly whipped up two of his personal Diwali favourites - masala prawns, which were served as mini sliders with beetroot relish and a tamarind and date chutney, and his signature gulab jamun - a standout of the evening.

The fluffy, fried doughnut balls were drizzled with a sticky, cardamom and rosewater syrup and decorated with pistachios and gold leaf foiling, and excited spectators were only too delighted to taste-test the sweet creations.

In between cooking demonstrations, the amiable reality cooking star spent time taking selfies with some of his youngest fans, chatting with excited guests and regaling the crowd with stories from his time in the MasterChef kitchen.

While the kitchen was the centre of the evening’s live entertainment, there were myriad activities taking place throughout the four-bedroom, double-storey home, with art and craft classes for little ones, henna body painting and plenty of roving canapes and cocktails.

The dazzling celebrations continued at the Vantage, on display in Greenvale, which was also a sea of spectactular colour and cookery. Guests were drawn to the home's spacious outdoor entertaining area, which was framed by a twinkling Lumi Lighting curtain. As the sun set, they were treated to a glimmering Bollywood dance performance and, afterwards, learned how to get their Diwali groove on.

Author and interior stylist Chris Carroll, founder of TLC Interiors, was the host for the evening, with other esteemed attendees including influencer, model and AFL multicultural ambassador Vishnu Mohandas Chempankulam, as well as key members of the Maharashtra Mandal of Victoria; Abhijit Bhid, Prashant Jadhav and Shilpa Bibikar.

Metricon’s own Inner Urban Sales and Brand Manager Damian Morabito was delighted to see such a wonderful turnout to the events, and spoke of what an honour it was to see our homes play host to such a significant occasion. He also highlighted how seamless the homes' family-friendly designs made entertaining, with the Sovereign and Vantage providing the ideal backdrops for an evening of fun and festivity.
