Love to entertain and looking for some handy tips for creating the perfect space for less?

Recently, we were lucky enough to catch up with Chris Carroll of TLC Interiors and Chelsea Thomas of I Heart Bargains who together, provided some clever home hacks from storage, to styling and even DIY.

We are now excited to share with you their ideas for styling the ultimate outdoor entertaining space on a budget – including how to bring together two different zones to maximise on your outdoor space, as well as a fun DIY hack for creating a table centrepiece.

Build the perfect DIY centrepiece

Chelsea shares how fun and easy it is to make your own table centrepiece.

Here are her steps for bringing this clever piece together:

  1. Start with three black pots, flipping them on their heads and placing them evenly across the centre of the table
  2. Grab two wooden chopping boards and carefully place each on top of the pots, creating a flat surface
  3. For extra interest, add greenery by placing small potted plants on top of the board. Succulents look great here and add life to the table.

Style a sophisticated outdoor entertaining space

Creating a sophisticated outdoor entertaining space does not always have to cost a bomb. As explained by Chris, the perfect way to nail the look is getting the colours right. With consistency of colour across both the furniture pieces and the accessories placed on top of the table – you are well on your way to a sophisticated setting.

For this particular table – Chris opted for some black wire chairs from Kmart, which also worked perfectly with the black pots introduced by Chelsea in the DIY centrepiece. Chris explains that by introducing a dark colour to the space – the whole scene instantly feels chic.

Create an exciting chill out zone for the kids

While entertaining your family and friends is a lot of fun, the kids are not be forgotten! The third and final hack shared by Chris and Chelsea is their take on the ultimate kids ‘chill out zone.’ This fantastic space not only looks great, it makes for clever use of your backyard – creating a second zone to be enjoyed.

To help bring the space together, Chris and Chelsea used some products from Kmart – all in a blue colour scheme working perfectly with the outdoor garden surroundings. By simply rolling out a picnic rug, adding some denim bean bags and a fabric tee-pee – the space is instantly brought to life. Accessories including an on theme esky and plastic picnic items were then introduced, making for the perfect final addition.

Chris explains that ultimately, the kids chill out zone is all about comfort and creating a space that is cool to hang out in - so there is no need to worry about making the space look ‘designer.’
