Festive cookie jars are this year's sweetest gift

Metricon

Stuck on what to get for the person who has everything this festive season? It's a fact that you can never have too many cookies, so why not give the gift of chewy triple chocolate cookies arranged in a cute little mason jar this festive season? Sweet, delicious and perfect for whipping up at a second's notice.

Chewy, triple chocolate cookie jars

Ingredients

  • 1 litre mason jar
  • 1 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1 tsp tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt flakes
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup castor sugar
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips

Assembly

Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Using a funnel, pour half of the flour mixture into the jar. Wipe down the sides with a tissue to make sure the layers don’t mix too much.

Carefully add the cocoa on top. Again, wiping down the sides of the jar with a tissue, before adding the remaining flour layer.

Next is the brown sugar. This should be packed in as much as you can, followed by the white sugar.
Top it off with the dark chocolate chips then white chocolate chips to make sure there is even distribution of colours.
Add the lid then decorate however you like. We used twine to tie a cardboard tag with the cooking instructions printed on the back, as well as foliage and a pine cone to the neck of the jar to make it extra festive.

Instructions

(Don't forget to include these with the gift) Whisk 1/2 cup of melted butter, 1 large egg and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Empty the jar into the bowl and mix until well combined. Chill for 30 minutes. Shape dough into golf ball sized portions and place onto a baking lined tray. Bake at 180 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until the cookies are turning slightly golden at the edge (they should still be soft and gooey in the centre). Allow to cool.
