Creating the perfect paint colour combination

Metricon

Selecting the best paint colour combination for your walls can be one of the most difficult choices you make in the selection process for your new home. Even for those with a creative or design background, choosing a colour scheme for your interior or exterior walls can create uncertainty and indecisiveness.

Metricon’s recent BuildSmart Series Lookbook Masterclass with Dulux Australia and The Design Files’ Lucy Feagins helped guests find their colour confidence, with tips on choosing paint colour for their new home.

Metricon’s state of the art selection centre Studio M in Melbourne was the perfect setting to see the latest style and colour inspirations. The event was hosted by Chris Carroll – stylist, presenter and author behind The Life Creative.

and supervised by resident Dulux mascot, ‘Penny’ the Old English sheepdog. Following champagne and canapés, it was time for guests to get in touch with their colourful side.

Colour is a great way to introduce depth and mood into a room. Lucy spoke of working with Domino by Dulux, a dark charcoal grey that works well to inject intimacy, particularly into bedrooms.

“I’m loving a really deep, bold grey and I think it’s an easy way to infuse something into your home that’s a bit more dramatic, but it’s still neutral" Lucy Feagins, The Design Files

In reviewing upcoming colour trends, it was revealed that the use of distilled colour palettes is serving as a cure to calm the challenges of today’s modern, hectic lifestyle. Think of coming home from a frantic day to the warmth of flesh tones and soft naturals. Who doesn’t need a little calmness and composure to end their day?

With so many elements to consider such as the atmosphere or mood of the room, the impact of light and space and how colours interact with finishes, it’s understandable that colour selection can be overwhelming.

With design expertise on-hand, guests created their own mood boards. A mood board is an extremely helpful tool to visually bring all design elements together and was definitely a favourite with our guests.

Here’s a snippet of what some of our guests had to say about their evening:

“Every aspect of the event was informative and engaging."

“What brilliant expert advice! StudioM is amazing with all of its inspirational ideas.”

“I’ve learnt to be more bold with colour.” “Thanks for making me think outside the box.”

“Content and presenters were fantastic.”

Lucy highlighted that “confidence is key”. By trusting your instincts and appreciating that you don’t always have to play by the rules of colour, you will be a step closer to creating a home that is uniquely yours.
