The Botanica 32, (located in Mount Barker, South Australia, now closed) is a large single storey home based on the sophisticated Black Label style. T
he Bordeaux 56A (located in Rochedale, Queensland) is a stunning and very grand home with enormous street appeal.
Here, we learn more about each of these homes and what made them stand out to the team on Best Houses Australia.
Bayville 49
Senior Residential Designer at Metricon, Ricky D’Alesio, explains that
whilst this home is a little “out-of-the-box” for Metricon, the design
is a highly desirable one, particularly for bayside or coastal families
who want space and zoned living.
Upon entering the home you’re immediately struck by the double-storey void; it introduces a sense of space and light that pervades the entire home.
The décor is simple and calm, and whilst there are classic architectural qualities throughout, there are also some surprises such as the feature wine cellar. The indoor-outdoor living is perfect for entertaining and provides a great flow for large families. It’s certainly a fresh and tranquil home to live in.

Botanica 32
The Botanica 32 is a substantial single storey home, perfect for wide allotments. The standout feature is the enormous master suite at the front of the home. With dual walk-in robes, an opulent ensuite and a luxurious hotel feel, this is a parent retreat to aspire to!
The monochromatic colour palette gives the home a sense of sophistication and elegance, but the functional and practical layout and décor means it’s completely workable for families. The kitchen is definitely the heart of this home with its huge island bench, plenty of prep room and a great butler’s pantry.
There are a number of clever and practical elements throughout the home such as the small space adjacent the kitchen being used as a home office, and the use of plantation shutters between the dining area and hall to let in light and increase the sense of space. The open plan living and indoor-outdoor aspect lends itself perfectly to enjoying a view or warm-weather entertaining.
Bordeaux 56A
The Bordeaux is a very grand home with enormous wow-factor. Inspired by the traditional French chateaux, this home is blessed with high ceilings, classic architecture and luxurious elements throughout. The curved staircase you are greeted with upon entry is certainly the hero of the home. With its wrought iron detail, it is a standout feature that has influenced other parts of the décor.
From the tall arched windows with their stunning drapes, to the flowing open spaces flooded by natural light, this magnificent home is certainly opulent whilst still family friendly and practical to live in.
