Community Giving

At Metricon we don't just build homes - we build communities.

Our commitment to you and your community

We believe giving and sharing creates a strong foundation on which true community spirit grows. Metricon is committed to building and nurturing strong relationships with organisations in the community that have a positive impact in areas we're passionate about. This is why we support a range of charities in the locations where Metricon operates. Our support includes partnerships with two principal national charities, assisting local charities in regional communities, as well as gifting our people two days of annual volunteering leave to devote to causes they care about.

Principal Charity Partnerships

Metricon has principal charity partnerships with both Canteen and Habitat for Humanity Australia. Metricon will provide financial and in-kind support for a three-year term as part of our strong commitment to community giving.

Canteen

Every year, another 23,000 young people are affected by cancer. That’s 63 young people every day.

Canteen makes sure young Australians don’t have to face a cancer diagnosis alone. Through counselling, peer support programs and funding clinical research trials, Canteen is celebrated as a world leader in its field. In addition to supporting cancer patients, Canteen also offers support to siblings, children and parents of cancer sufferers.

At Metricon, many of our employees, suppliers and customers have been touched by cancer in their lives. This connection was the genesis of our partnership with this special organisation. We care about the health of young Australians and their families, which is why we are committed to helping Canteen amplify their impact in the community

Metricon x Canteen VIC Charity Bike Ride

In March this year, 24 Metricon cyclists completed a 568km, five-day bike ride to support young Australians living with cancer. Cycling from Melbourne to Ballarat, Ballarat to Colac, Colac to Apollo Bay, Apollo Bay to Rye and finally from Rye to the Metricon head office in Melbourne, the Metricon team pushed their physical limits to raise money and awareness for Canteen Australia. The vital funds raised will assist young people coping with cancer in their family, rebuild their foundations and connect with others in the same boat.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity believes that a stable, secure home creates the foundation for change; that a safe home gives people the opportunity to be healthier, happier and more secure, and for children to be better nourished and educated.

At Metricon, we believe everyone should have a place to call home, which is why this partnership is so special to us and our people. We are committed to helping Habitat for Humanity build, renovate and restore homes for disadvantaged Australians around the country. Because building a decent home provides much more than bricks and mortar – it builds a community and provides real hope for the future.

Family of five receive keys to a bright future

A special project as part of our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, construction of a Metricon home in Yea is now complete. Leanda, Ashley and their three children have been dealt some pretty rough cards in life. They have lived in severe rental distress, moving 13 times over the past 17 years, a fate common for low income families who are often priced out of the private rental market. Furthermore, each of their children suffers from health challenges including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Owning a home of their own will be a game changer for the Bowen family, giving them security and empowering them to plan for the future in a way that was previously unfathomable.

“Metricon is in a unique position to share some of its good fortune with Australian families. We’re proud of the contribution we can make to supporting people experiencing adversity. We actively encourage our team to pursue volunteering opportunities through paid volunteering days - not only with our principal partners but with the wide range of causes that mean something to them personally.” Metricon CEO - Mario Biasin

Volunteering at Metricon

Metricon gifts our staff two days of paid volunteer leave each year, empowering them to use their work time to give back to the community. Over 250 Metricon people across Australia have volunteered their time in the first few months of 2021 – a record for us. It’s something we’re particularly proud of given how busy everyone is delivering our building program. This reflects how important giving back is to our people, and how passionate they are about supporting causes in their local community. From building and renovating homes with Habitat for Humanity and making sandwiches for hungry school kids with Eat Up, to supporting sister organisations St Kilda and Geelong Mums, Metricon people have devoted hundreds of hours to creating a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.
