If you desire a calm and classic interior that never goes out of style, Metricon’s latest Lookbook theme, Southampton is for you. Inspired by the timeless look of the Hamptons, we’ve created the perfect balance of old and new derived from this relaxed affluent seaside setting.

The elegance of the American east coast has arrived and our new interior style has been created for those that appreciate a sophisticated yet understated style.

The coastal inspired luxury you can achieve with the Southampton style is about creating a harmonious home that is tasteful, polished and perfectly suited to a seaside setting or suburban sanctuary.

“This look is a beautiful mix of relaxed coastal style elements with classic high-end finishes, to give this style a look that is clean, fresh and strikingly elegant.” Metricon Senior Interior Designer, Jacinta Evans.

The quintessential essence of the Hamptons lies in the clean, fresh colour scheme.  The Southampton colour palette keeps it simple with shades of warm grey applied to walls, allowing the crisp whites to highlight embellishments, fireplaces and built in cabinetry.

White is carried through consistently in kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Classic marble benchtops create light and add opulence to these practical spaces. Styling with nature’s elements such as cane baskets or coastal finds add textural interest and reflects the coastal lifestyle this theme works so well with.

Southampton takes care not to be a complete cliché of Hamptons style. Styling accessories hint of coastal influence to bring a relaxed feel but don’t reduce the elegance factor. In living areas, a focal point, often the sofas bring the room together.  This style positions oversized pieces of furniture in natural fabrics symmetrically to create a defined, inviting space.  You can add interest with an occasional chair in a lush fabric and cushions in cool blue and green tones to provide a dramatic contrast.

The Southampton bedroom uses linen upholstery to provide texture and warmth and tailored white linen curtains with subtle striped detailing.  This is complemented with inky blue feature walls and clean coastal artwork, which remain true to nautical design elements whilst creating a deeper mood for more intimate spaces.

Side tables and glass feature lighting such as pendants, table lamps and wall sconces add visual interest to this look and provide the opportunity to incorporate a touch of 1920’s Gatsby glamour with gold, nickel or brass features.

Whilst traditional and more casual coastal styles tend to use distressed or washed woodwork, Southampton steps up the level of lux and creates contrast and warmth with walnut that sits beautifully against a fresh white colour palette.

Southampton style is timeless and sophisticated.  This look takes the most elegant and stylish design elements of a time gone by and blends these with a beautiful balance of contemporary high-end design to create a relaxed yet ultimately refined space.
