Building for the first time

We can help you build the perfect home for you and your family, or for your next investment.

The journey to building your new home

At Metricon, we know how exciting building a new home can be. We also know that the process can be daunting if you haven’t built before. So we’ve provided a step-by-step guide to help you embark on the journey.

Why build a new home?

  • Building a new home means you get exactly what you want and how you want it. No compromises on the layout of the home, or interior finishes and fixtures, so you get the perfect home for your family and lifestyle
  • You can choose from a wide and wonderful range of home sites in purpose-planned estates with lakes, walkways, parks, and close to schools, shops and amenities, or build on your own block of land
  • You can avoid potential problems with renovating an older home, due to hidden faults or unexpected issues
  • Want to know how much you can save on stamp duty? Use our Stamp Duty Calculator.
  • You could save money while your new home is being built: payments are staggered throughout the process so you don’t have to come up with all the money up front
  • If you’re a first home buyer you may be eligible for grants from federal and state governments and also additional stamp duty savings. Find out about the First Home Owner Grant (PDF, 191kb)
  • You also save money buying a new home, because you only pay stamp duty on the cost of the land, not the building (unlike an established home)
  • Plus a new Metricon home comes with a lifetime structural guarantee# to give you peace of mind.

How to choose your home builder

Once you’ve made the decision to build a new home, finding the right builder for your new home is very important. Your builder needs to be reliable, trustworthy and well-established so you can rest easy knowing your new home build is in good hands.

We’ve created a comprehensive checklist of questions to ask your builder to ensure you get personalised service, with an experienced team and a superior quality new home.

Finding land and siting your new home

Read through our Guidelines for choosing land (PDF, 54kb) to help with land selection. Once you’ve selected your land, we’ll use our GeoSite tool to show you how your new home will look on your land at different times of the day or even in different seasons. GeoSite helps you orientate your home to ensure energy efficiency and optimum natural lighting.

Confirming choices, contracts and approvals

Here’s where all the planning comes together! Your customer support coordinator (CSC) will guide you through every stage of this process as we prepare your final drawings and a contract featuring all your selections and requirements.

We’ll also make all necessary applications for permits and approvals, which may vary from council to council.

Your customer service coordinator is your main contact while your home is being built. They’ll schedule meetings and inspections for you of your build site and introduce you to your site manager once construction commences.

Building your new home

Watch your dream become a reality as your Metricon build team gets to work. Your construction and site manager will supervise the process and will ensure that the building of your new home adheres to our stringent quality assurance guidelines.

This phase includes five building stages:

  1. Base: Pouring your slab
  2. Frame: Erecting the frame
  3. Lock-up: Getting the home to 'lock-up' (with a roof and walls)
  4. Fixing: Completing the interior and exterior details of the home
  5. Completion: Handover of your new home!

Moving in and starting your new life - welcome to your brand new home!

Once construction is complete, we will arrange settlement and you can move into your new Metricon home.

It’s quite normal for minor items to require attention as a new home ‘settles’. This is why we return at the end of your nominated service period to conduct our New Home Service inspection.

Couple this with our lifetime structural guarantee and you can look forward to enjoying your new home for many years to come.
