Earlier this year Metricon announced they had become a Major Partner of Very Special Kids’ 2008 Piggy Bank Appeal. To help raise awareness and funds for the Piggy Bank Appeal, Metricon are hosting Family Fun Days at four display super centres across Melbourne and Geelong on Sunday August 31.
Metricon’s General Manager of Marketing, Darren Mehl, said Metricon is very committed to the charity and has already embarked a range of fund raising activities – including building a home for auction which will be auctioned later in the year.
Very Special Kids is a unique organisation that supports families throughout their experience of caring for children with life-threatening illnesses, from diagnosis through to recovery or bereavement.
“With only 20% government funding, Very Special Kids wouldn’t exist without corporate sponsorship and the generous support of the community to carry out its services. By hosting a Family Fun days throughout our display network, we are inviting the community to also get behind this wonderful cause,” suggested Mr. Mehl.
The Piggy Bank Appeal partnership reinforces Metricon’s Community Growth Program initiative that provides not-for-profit organisations throughout Victoria with much-needed funds.
Held every September, the Piggy Bank Appeal is the biggest fundraiser for Very Special Kids. The community is encouraged to get involved with five giant (500kg!) Piggy Banks – Penelope, Princess, Percy, Patrick and George – travelling across the state to raise funds and awareness for Very Special Kids. Last year the appeal raised $1.2 million.
“Our Family Fun Days will be held across Melbourne at our Berwick (southern suburbs), Mernda (Northern suburbs), Caroline Springs (Western Suburbs) and Leopold (Geelong) display centres. The day will be filled with plenty of fun activities including roving entertainment for the kids, a sausage sizzle, fairy floss machine, spot giveaways and much more. We are hoping to attract families to each display to enjoy the festivities and support the great cause,” offers Mr. Mehl.
