8/06/2007

Metricon,Victoria’s leading homebuilder, announced its contribution towards the Tsunami Appeal at a special staff presentation with Reverend Tim Costello, Chief Executive of World Vision, in attendance.

Metricon presented Reverend Costello with a cheque in excess of $179,000 to World Vision’s appeal.

Metricon’s Managing Director Ross Palazzesi said Metricon was compelled to act after the Boxing Day tsunami.

"Like the rest of the world, we were stunned by the devastating impact of the tsunamis," said Ross. "We hope our contribution will assist in rebuilding communities in Asia."

Metricon pledged $500 from every home sold until 31 March 2005 towards the Tsunami Appeal. In addition, the company matched staff donations dollar for dollar. Staff were given the opportunity to donate to five nominated organisations, including World Vision, Red Cross, Oxfam, UNICEF and CARE Australia.

Ross said that Metricon was honoured to have Reverend Costello as a guest speaker at its staff event which was attended by more than four hundred staff.

"Reverend Costello gave us a first hand account of his experience in Sri Lanka where he oversaw relief efforts," said Ross. "It was truly inspiring to hear tales of Australia’s generosity and compassion at such a tragic time."

Metricon is anticipating additional funds to be donated to the Appeal in the coming months.
