Mare-Nepe Willcox – a young cerebral palsy sufferer – has moved into his dream Metricon home at Fawkner at a special event recently.
Metricon, Victoria’s leading homebuilder, has worked collaboratively with the Moreland City Council and a number of Metricon suppliers to secure Mare-Nepe’s future with a new, modified home.
Metricon’s General Manager of Marketing, Gideon Kline, said that Metricon has been proudly involved in this project.
"We are thrilled to reach this milestone – to hand over the home to Mare-Nepe," said Gideon. "It was wonderful to see his reaction and hear his plans for a large housewarming party to celebrate the start of his new life."
AFL football champion and premiership Kangaroos player, Glenn Archer, is a personal friend of Mare-Nepe and has spearheaded this project. He has worked solidly for over a year in gaining support for the initiative; including gaining solid backing from Channel Nine’s The Footy Show.
"Mare-Nepe lost his mother more than a year ago so he was living alone in public housing," said Gideon. "When Metricon was approached by Glenn Archer, we were strongly moved to assist and have gained great support from our Directors and suppliers."
This includes Clipsal and Lifestyle National who donated almost $25,000 worth of state-of-the-art home automation features.
Other contributors who have donated goods and/or services to this special project include Timbertruss Geelong, Beston Plumbing, Hanson Concrete, CTI, A&L Windows, Caroma, Major Carpets, PACT Heating & Cooling as well as CSR Monier Roof Tiles, Boral Plaster, Corinthian Doors and DNS Landscaping Design.
"The result is a wonderful, contemporary home that has also been fully landscaped so all Mare-Nepe needed to do was move in," said Gideon.
The home has been modified to suit Mare-Nepe’s needs including full wheelchair access and other special changes to the ensuite, living areas and wardrobe spaces. In addition, water and energy saving devices have been incorporated to help reduce Mare-Nepe's ongoing costs. Metricon’s design and drafting teams took special consideration when designing the home to meet not only Mare-Nepe’s current condition, but also his expected long term future in his home.
"We wish Mare-Nepe every happiness in his new home," said Gideon
